Tethering to an iPad

Having sworn to never buy an iPad, I'm quickly biting down on my own tongue with this new hack. Being a photographer that's constantly shooting on-location, having the ability to preview images poses a mobility challenge. Without wires, a jailbroken Apple iPad, and WiFi SD card you can tether your images directly into the iPad for review and storage.

Panasonic GF2 released

Just over a year since the popular GF1 was released, Panasonic has come out with a little brother for the family of 'rangefinder-like' micro-four thirds. Based on the same design, the GF2 includes upgrades like the touchscreen taken from the GH2, and full 1080i60 HD video and packed into a slimmer and lighter body. Equipped with the same 12MP sensor, the GF2 aims to be put in the hands of avid prosumers, with the eliminations of some camera body buttons now hidden in menus.

The GF2 is being shipping with a new extra small pancake 14mm f2.5 lens and further more accomodates the new 3D lenses.

He's chosen canvas as his medium of choice to communicate these emotions artistically through oil, acrylic, and other mixed mediums. Mentored by another Canadian friend and painter, Francois Trottier, both their art use extreme textured filled strokes and extra chunky paint application. I'll admit, had I not seen the glimmering skin of a half naked Asian, I would have kept clicking, through sipping my coffe. Young & hustling photographer Jing from Singapore is the man behind these super shiny photos. The use of replication in subjects/objects/color/shapes into the frame is somewhat of a frozen dance. Deeper digging into Jing Quek's portfolio shows a depth of thought into every shot. He also runs a profession photography studio in Singapore catering to the handful of locally based advertising agencies.

For any camera enthusiast or professional photographer, the idea of a large, high quality sensor in a traditional camera form factor is always attractive. In the past we've seen the Sigma DP1, the Ricoh GRD, Panasonics micro 3/4's and now Fujifilm announces its competition to growing line up.

Based around a 12MP APS-C CMOS sensor, and a fixed 23mm (35mm equivalent) f2, this retro styled camera will win the hearts of many. The classically styled camera features a hybrid viewfinder that switches between analog and digital to help when focusing. Also included will be 720p HD video recording and a 460k 2.8" LCD screen. The latest micro 4/3's sensor size has captured the hearts of many photographers wanting a "SLR"-like experience in a "pocketable" form factor. Brands like Panasonic, Olympus, Sony and Leica have quickly captured the market by being the first to offer reasonably priced bodies. Until recently, the biggest drawback for most photographers has been the poor selection lenses available, but contenders like Voigtländer have stepped up to stage.

Voigtlander of Austria brings us a remake of a vintage lens with extreme shallow depth of field and ready with a c-mount for GH1/GF1 family. Known as the world's fastest 25mm lens at f0.95, manual focus and manual aperture ring keeps most amateurs away but will make any pro's legs rubbery. With a minimum focus of only 15cm, this should will create stunning bokeh and be a joy for close-up, almost macro-like shots.

Since 1998 Li&Co has grown it's client list globally and diversified it's projects to include private homes, museums, luxury retail shops, restaurants and bars to mention a few.

Together with Li&Co we aimed to create a website that was highly refined, visually contemporary and poetic, while still keeping intuitive to any user. We built the site using Wordpress as the light CMS giving the ability for LI&Co to easily add, delete and manage each project in their portfolio, and the staff profile pages. We chose to build all the interactivity using CSS, jQuery and some of our custom designed plugins. This allowed the images on the site to scale 100% to the browsers size and smoothly fade between the images.

CSS is no new tool in the box, but the animations/effects that was once saved only for Flash, is finally being replaced with a much friendlier CSS3. Flip is an accessories brand with a difference. Born from a need for smart, stylish solutions to everyday fashion dilemmas, Flip is here to help you cope with the trials and tribulations of maintaining a serious fashion collection.

Flip's website needed eCommerce functionality along with the ability to blog news about their latest products or current events. Naturally, we added the ability for people to register to their monthly newsletter or subscribe to their RSS feed of their News. All this was done through Wordpress, 3rd party extensions and plugins, plus many hours of custom development.

With the design of the site, I created a flexiframe design, playing with the positioning of the elements within the browser. I wanted to change the viewing experience for users with different size browsers, and really maximize the real estate of larger monitors in this PC (Mac ;) landscape. This dynamic sizing of the website will be the future of grid-based layout in modern web design.

These lovely machines, ever so well suited for the starving artist to the creative director for any of the top 4 A's. What's even worse is when we decide to build a website in the world's least favourable OS, Mac! If you can even make it to the testing stages, this is where the hairs turn gray. In the past I've resorted to remotely connecting to a pc to test builds. But finally a smart lad has put together a package that allows intel mac users to test on Internet Explorer 5, 6 and 7beta.

Takashi Murakami is well known in the art scene for making thought-provoking paintings and sculptures, running the influential artist-led art enterprise Kaikai Kiki artist management group, curating the visionary Superflat show, and collaborating on high-end, high profile projects with Louis Vuitton.

Takashi Murakami is often billed as the next Andy Warhol. Like the American pop art icon, he fuses high and low, pulling imagery from consumer culture to produce visually arresting, highly original work. He is vigorously, ingeniously self-promotional. In the past few years, Murakami has swept across the US and Europe, receiving fawning media attention and exhibiting at big-name museums.

+ The Show +

The exhibition will show prints and canvases from 2001 to 2008 noting his famous DOB, Murakami's little mouselike leitmotif, a cartoonish and clueless creation whose name derives from the slang expression "dobojite," meaning "why?". DOB was an exceedingly clever invention, as he gave Murakami an alter ego with which to tap into and comment on Japanese society.

Like Warhol, Murakami has turned to silk-screening to get the flat, non-painterly look his art demands. He understands the popular appeal and refreshing accessibility of art as wallpaper or a helium-filled balloon. Most importantly, like Warhol (who once quipped, "I don't read my magazine reviews, I weigh them"), Murakami is well aware of the importance of zealous self-promotion.

Following a successful run of exhibitions (LOVE ART featuring BANKSY), Fabrik Contemporary Art for the first time opens a new space in Lan Kwai Fong presenting their collection of works by Takashi Murakami and Kaikai Kiki artists Mr. and Chiho Aoshima. The idea was to create a project room in which works could be presented within a focused environment. The gallery will also house their selected collection of Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Maurizio Catellan and the Chapman Brothers.

Took out an old album, Enemy Gold by The Screaming Eagles, which seemed fitting with the glee in my mood. Admiring it's cover led me to ask my friend google who did it, and this is who turned up, Lily Lin, another Canadian from Vancouver, now located in Berlin. She's awesome! Eggs, I love em. Even before my earliest memories, I can remember my uncle magically making seven-egg-omelets vanish. Midnight always seems to bring out the morning beast, craving the breakfast of champions.

Riding the V

HOLY SHIT! If there's one memory that ties Hong Kong and riding fixed, it's today. Met up with the boys on bikes down in Tsim Sha Tsui. Had a slow start with lots of waiting around for the crowd to slowly show up. Once most of us were grouped we headed towards Hong Kong's only velodrome in Shatin, more of a myth as apparently it's been shutdown and no one's ridden on it. Well, the gods were with us and we found it, walked in, and all had grins from ear to ear. The day endedwith a Sunday stroll to Tai Po and headed back home. Lot's of pics, but here's the highlight video of the day, the hamster passing the bear.

Waking up to a blue cloudless sky in Hong Kong is rare, one shouldn't waste these days. I was out early on the bike riding through a desolate Tsim Sha Tsui in blistering 30'c heat trying to snap some photos of Hong Kong for my future book.

Tonight at Schoeni Gallery was the opening for ANDY WARHOL's exhibit. The same venue recently used for Banksy's art show. Here's I, checking out a print late into the night.

Fixed gear has become the latest accessory to the urban fashion militia, much like Tinkerbell's were for girls two years ago when Paris was strutting her green naked ass on video. Thanks to Brian at RodaFixa, with lots of sweat and a few teeth, he's managed to build a strong awareness for the folks riding fixed geared bikes in Hong Kong.

It's nothing to artsy, rather an exercise of good, functional design. The requirements to build a forum that contains all the functionality we've become familiar with, but without the clutter that turns sites into another MySpace or AOL spam campaign. In the Christmas spirit, I present, the forum

Welcome May, oh how time flies. It's funny how our mind does that to us, once in a while that stick comes out from nowhere and says "look at all the nothingness you've been doing! pick up the slack!" It's been 91 days since I stepped foot on my motherland, and it's been nothing less then eventful. Since I've arrived in Hong Kong I've been on the hunt for that ideal laptop bag. Truth is I've been desiring something leather and black, but just large enough for my trusted MBP, mouse and charger, the necessities to my life. Despite being in a shoppers mecca like this, it still proves to be a challenge to find. I debated getting a Porter bag, but seriously, every asian male from Japan to Hong Kong has one.

Tonight turned to be a very lucky find, this classic leather Pielnoble from Barcelona. Feeling the leather between my fingers brought back memories of holding grandma's aged hands. The solid heavy brass clasps & buckles give nothing less then an immortal tangibility. And yes, the lock actually works!

It's the first time I've taken a moment to gaze out at the view from my desk, finally noticing ICC growing into shape. Hong Kong has the ability to twist perspectives, from here, it seems dwarfed, but take a drive to the coast and you're belittled.

Can you imagine a world without Google? We'd still be using Lycos or perhaps even, AOL! LOL What better way to procrastinate from work and doing something for good cause, help Google label images. What the fuck does that mean? Better, more accurate keywords provide better search results when we use google to search for images or content. What we're ultimately doing as a whole is building metadata for images, turning a picture into a cluster of words.

It's easy, it's fun, and it's bragable!

Every set of speakers seem to have a specific song that was written for it, inseparable from birth. To these majestic beauties, the Interaudio SA 200 (~1983-1987 made by Bose), seem to dance at the sound of Nina Simone's Sinnerman. The guitars, the drums, the piano, all chase each other like kids in a playground. For what they are, they sound wonderful, but still lack the luster found in B&W's.
